Weingarten discusses what we can learn from PISA

In her latest column appearing in the New York Times, AFT President Randi Weingarten discusses the lessons we can learn from the recent Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) results. Instead of the usual hand-wringing and finger-pointing about how American students compare to other countries, the results should make us question whether the dominant strategies in U.S. education today—hyper-testing and competition—are the best approaches to help all children succeed, particularly in light of profound austerity and inequity.
